Roberto Carlos, known as Cucurucho, grandson of Bebo Valdés and nephew of Chucho Valdés, demonstrated an impressive musical aptitude at a very young age.
For example, he was already performing with his uncle Chucho at the age of 9.

Naturally influenced by his family tradition, but also by dancing music, Cucurucho has played with most internationally famous cuban bands. In 2001 he was invited to join Grammy winning band Los Van Van as a substitute for world famous Pupy Pedroso : he quickly became a fundamental member of the orchestra as performer, composer and arranger, until he left to start his own project in 2014.

Used to perfoming in prominent concert halls all over the world, such as the Miami Arena, the Roundhouse in London, or at venues such as the Sydney Opera or the Hollywood Bowl, in front of audiences of over one million people at the Peace Concert in Havana 2009, or more recently at the WOMEX (World Music Expo), Cucurucho knows how to deliver an intense stage experience to the audience.

He is now part of the principal representants of the Cuban « pianística », combining contemporary sounds with his own traditional Cuban musical roots, showing incredible virtuosity, fabulous lyricism and charisma. With his unique, soft yet powerful interpretation, Cucurucho has won praise and recognition from all of the Cuban musical press.

Roberto Carlos, dit Cucurucho, petit-fils de Bebo Valdés et neveu de Chucho Valdés, montra depuis un très jeune age des dispositions impressionnantes pour la musique. Par exemple, à 9 ans il se produisait déjà sur scène avec son oncle Chucho.

Naturellement influencé par sa tradition familiale, mais aussi par la musique dansante, il a joué avec la plupart des formations cubaines internationalement connue. En 2001 il est invité à rejoindre le groupe titulaire d'un Grammy, Los Van Van pour remplacer le célèbre Pupy Pedroso. Rapidement il devient un membre fondamental de l'orchestre en tant que compositeur, arrangeur et interprète, jusqu'au moment où il décide de quitter ce monument de la musique et de monter son propre projet au cours de l'année 2014.

Accoutumé à se produire dans les plus grandes salles de concerts du monde, telles que le Miami Arena, le Roundhouse de Londres, ou à donner des représentations dans des endroits mythiques tels que l'opéra de Sydney ou le Hollywood Bowl, face à plus d'un million de spectateurs lors du Concert pour la Paix à La Havane en 2009, ou plus récemment au WOMEX (World Music Expo), Cucurucho sait comment faire vivre une intense expérience scénique à son audience.

Il fait partie actuellement des plus grands représentants de l'unique “pianistica” cubaine, un mélange entre des sonorités contemporaines et ses propres racines musicales traditionnelles cubaines, en faisant preuve d'une incroyable virtuosité, d'un lyrisme fabuleux et d'un grand charisme. Par son interprétation unique, à la fois douce et puissante. Cucurucho a gagné la reconnaissance de toute la presse musicale cubaine.

Lors de la création de son groupe et pour l'enregistrement de son premier album, il s'est entouré de musiciens d'exception, dont le contrebassiste Fabían García Caturla du Buena Vista Social Club, alors âgé de 80 ans et qui a récemment pris sa retraite.
